A note on sizing words
"Teacup", "mini", "micro" and "tiny" are informal marketing and search terms — not official AKC varieties. The American Kennel Club recognizes a single Chihuahua breed with an adult weight not exceeding 6 lb, in two coat types (smooth and long). We use these words because they are how families search, and we always publish each puppy's real projected adult weight and both parents' weights so you can judge size honestly. Very small puppies need extra time with their litter and careful blood-sugar management, and we never place a very small puppy before it is ready.

How small do they really stay?
Adult weight cannot be guaranteed by anyone. What an honest breeder can give you is evidence: the puppy's weight today, its weight curve so far, and the weights of both parents. We publish that for every puppy and keep the projection as a stated estimate. If a seller promises an exact adult weight in pounds, treat it as a sales claim rather than a fact.

Caring for a 3 lb Chihuahua
Feeding and blood sugar
A puppy under about 4 lb has very little energy reserve, so small meals every 3–4 hours during the day are normal in the first months. We send you home with the exact food, feeding schedule and blood-sugar instructions we use, and we stay reachable while your puppy settles.
Going home later, not sooner
Very small puppies stay with their litter longer than a standard-size Chihuahua. We do not place a very small puppy before it is eating reliably and holding weight, whatever the buyer's timeline is.
Handling and household safety
Recliners, stair edges, bed heights and larger dogs are the everyday risks for a 3 lb adult. Most families use a playpen for the first weeks and carry the puppy on stairs.
Dental and veterinary care
Chihuahuas are dentally fragile as a breed, and smaller mouths crowd more. Plan routine dental care with your own veterinarian; we don't diagnose or treat, we hand over the vet records we have.
Warmth and clothing
Little body mass means they lose heat fast. Sweaters in winter and a warm bed are practical, not decorative — including in coastal California evenings.
