Question 1

Where can I buy a Chihuahua puppy near me?

Accepted Answer

We are a California-based boutique breeder of Apple Head and teacup Chihuahuas. We hand-deliver throughout California and arrange vetted in-cabin flight nannies to major US cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, Houston and Miami. Start on the Available Puppies page and contact us for current availability.

Question 2

Who sells Apple Head Chihuahuas?

Accepted Answer

Apple Head Chihuahuas come from breeders who select for the classic domed skull and short muzzle. We breed Apple Head Chihuahuas from imported European bloodlines and raise every litter in our home. Ask any breeder to show the parents on a live video call before you place a deposit.

Question 3

Where can I buy a teacup Chihuahua?

Accepted Answer

Buy only from a breeder who lets you meet the puppy and parents on video, provides vet-signed health records, and never releases a teacup before 10–14 weeks. We place teacup Chihuahuas with families across the USA with hand-delivery or in-cabin nanny transport.

Question 4

How do I find a reputable Chihuahua breeder near me?

Accepted Answer

Look for a breeder who welcomes video calls, shows both parents, provides a written health guarantee, gives vet-signed vaccination and deworming records, and never ships a puppy in the cargo hold. Pressure to send a deposit sight-unseen is the clearest red flag.

Question 5

How much does a teacup Chihuahua cost?

Accepted Answer

Our own currently listed Chihuahua puppies are priced $7,000, with each puppy's exact price published on its listing. "Teacup" is an informal size term, not a separate recognized variety.

Question 6

How much are Apple Head Chihuahua puppies?

Accepted Answer

Our currently listed Apple Head Chihuahua puppies are priced $7,000, shown per puppy on its listing.

Question 7

What is the difference between an apple head and a deer head Chihuahua?

Accepted Answer

An Apple Head Chihuahua has a rounded, domed skull, a short muzzle set at roughly a 90-degree angle, and large wide-set eyes — the AKC breed standard. A Deer Head Chihuahua has a longer, sloped muzzle and a flatter skull, and is usually slightly larger.

Question 8

Is a micro teacup Chihuahua a real size?

Accepted Answer

"Teacup" and "micro teacup" are marketing terms, not official sizes — the AKC recognizes one Chihuahua breed under 6 lbs. In practice a teacup Chihuahua is an adult that stays around 2–4 lbs. Very small puppies need extra care with blood sugar and should never leave the breeder before 10–14 weeks.

Question 9

Are merle Chihuahuas rare?

Accepted Answer

Merle is an uncommon coat pattern in Chihuahuas and is priced accordingly. Responsible breeders never pair two merle parents, because merle-to-merle breeding raises the risk of hearing and vision problems.

Question 10

Are Chihuahuas good apartment dogs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Chihuahuas are one of the best apartment breeds — they need little space, short daily walks, and are happy indoors. In cold cities like New York or Chicago, a light sweater and an indoor potty pad make winter easy.

Question 11

Are Chihuahuas good with children?

Accepted Answer

Chihuahuas do best with respectful older children who understand how fragile a 2–5 lb dog is. With gentle handling and early socialization they are affectionate, loyal family dogs.

Question 12

How long do Chihuahuas live?

Accepted Answer

Chihuahuas are one of the longest-lived dog breeds, commonly reaching 14 to 18 years with good dental care, a quality diet and regular veterinary checkups.

Question 13

Apple Head vs Deer Head Chihuahua — which is better?

Accepted Answer

Neither is 'better', they are different head types. The Apple Head is the AKC standard — domed skull, short muzzle, large eyes — and is what most buyers picture as a Chihuahua. The Deer Head has a longer sloped muzzle, is usually a pound or two larger, and often has fewer dental crowding issues. Choose Apple Head for classic show-type looks, Deer Head for a slightly sturdier companion.

Question 14

Long coat vs short coat Chihuahua — which sheds less?

Accepted Answer

Both shed, but short coats shed fine hairs year-round that stick to fabric, while long coats shed less visibly and only need brushing two or three times a week. Neither is hypoallergenic.

Question 15

How big will my Chihuahua puppy get?

Accepted Answer

A reliable estimate is the puppy's weight at 8 weeks multiplied by about three, adjusted for the parents' adult weights. Standard Chihuahuas finish at 4–6 lbs, teacups at roughly 2–4 lbs. Ask your breeder for both parents' adult weights before you choose.

Question 16

How much should a 2-month-old Chihuahua weigh?

Accepted Answer

Most 8-week-old Chihuahuas weigh between 1 and 2 lbs. Teacup lines are often 1.0–1.4 lbs at that age, which is why they need to stay with the breeder until 10–14 weeks.

Question 17

Male or female Chihuahua — which is better?

Accepted Answer

Males are typically more openly affectionate, goofier and easier to please; females tend to be more independent and can be a little more territorial. Temperament differences between individual puppies are far larger than the difference between sexes, so pick the puppy's personality first.

Question 18

How do I pick the right puppy from a litter?

Accepted Answer

Watch the whole litter on video rather than one still photo. The boldest puppy will need firmer structure, the shyest will need patient socializing, and the middle-of-the-litter puppy usually adapts fastest to a first-time owner. Match energy to your household, not just to coat color.

Question 19

What health tests and records should the puppy have?

Accepted Answer

Ask for vet-signed exam notes, age-appropriate vaccinations, a deworming schedule, and confirmation that the heart, patellas and fontanelle (soft spot) have been checked. A written health guarantee should cover congenital defects for a defined period.

Question 20

Do Chihuahuas need a lot of exercise?

Accepted Answer

No. Two short walks and indoor play are plenty. Over-exercising a young teacup can stress fragile joints, so keep sessions short and skip long hikes and stairs while they are growing.

Question 21

Are Chihuahuas hard to potty train?

Accepted Answer

They are slower than larger breeds because their bladders are tiny, not because they are stubborn. Indoor pads plus a strict schedule — after waking, eating and playing — gets most puppies reliable within 8–12 weeks.

Question 22

Can a Chihuahua live in a hot or cold climate?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with adjustments. In hot cities walk early or late and never leave a Chihuahua on hot pavement; in cold cities use a sweater and indoor pads during winter. They should always live indoors.

Question 23

Can a Chihuahua puppy be shipped or hand-delivered to my city?

Accepted Answer

We never ship puppies in the cargo hold. We hand-deliver by car throughout California, and for cities such as New York, Chicago, Houston, Miami and Las Vegas we coordinate a vetted flight nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin.

Question 24

What should I ask a Chihuahua breeder before buying?

Accepted Answer

Ask to see the parents live on video, ask for vet-signed vaccination and deworming records, ask what the health guarantee covers and for how long, ask the puppy's projected adult weight, and ask exactly how the puppy will travel to you.

Question 25

What paperwork comes with the puppy?

Accepted Answer

Every puppy goes home with vet-signed vaccination and deworming records, a written health guarantee, care instructions, and pedigree paperwork where applicable.

Question 26

How do I reserve an available Chihuahua puppy?

Accepted Answer

Browse the Available Puppies page, then send us a message with the puppy's name. We schedule a video call so you can meet the puppy, then confirm the reservation and arrange pick-up or delivery.

Question 27

At what age can a Chihuahua puppy go home?

Accepted Answer

8 weeks minimum for standard-size Chihuahuas and 10–14 weeks for teacups. Tiny puppies need the extra weeks to stabilize blood sugar and finish socializing with their littermates.
