The paperwork every Chihuahua puppy should come with

Ask your breeder for a printed and emailed record showing:

  • Vaccinations — DAPP (distemper, adenovirus, parvo, parainfluenza) doses, dates, product, and vet signature.
  • Deworming — product used and date at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks.
  • Microchip — number and registration information if applicable.
  • Vet exam — most recent well-puppy check-up notes.

Standard puppy vaccination schedule

  • 6–8 weeks — first DAPP.
  • 10–12 weeks — second DAPP + optional bordetella.
  • 14–16 weeks — final DAPP + rabies.
  • 12 months — first boosters.

Ask your local vet to confirm the schedule for your state.

Deworming basics

Puppies are usually dewormed at least three times before pickup. Common products: pyrantel, fenbendazole. The record should name the product and date.

Red flags

  • "All shots up to date" with no dates or product names.
  • Vaccinations given by the breeder without vet supervision on paper.
  • Rabies given before 12 weeks (too early).

Your first-week vet visit

Schedule a well-puppy visit within the first week home. Bring all records. Your vet will confirm the schedule and add any missing state-specific requirements.
